Is this because of a lawsuit or something?

Kinja'd!!!

I have an iPad and a Fire HD 10. I’ve tweaked the Fire a little so I can use Chrome and the YouTube app amongst other unsupported apps . I prefer the Fire for video because of the wide aspect ratio and better placement of the speakers for video, and like the iPad for reading and web surfing, mostly because of its 4:3 aspect ratio. Often times in bed I have a video going on the Fire whilst I surf the web or shop on the iPad.

One thing t hat I miss on the Fire is the ability to pinch for zoom and shrink. Is it supposed to be able to do that? Am I missing a setting somewhere? Maybe it’s because I’ve been an iPad user since the first one in 2010, but the iPad just seems smoother and easier to use despite having ‘lesser’ specs. When in YouTube on the Fire I find that I frequently miss the little icon to blow up the video and skip to the next vid, a problem I never had with the iPad. Or its tough to hit because it’s almost covered by the case.

Can I make the Fire behave more like the iPad?

What are you trying to pinch and zoom in? Mine works like that just fine.

Also....why are you trying to make it like an ipad....when you have an ipad...

On the zoom thing, that certainly should work. It does on my chromebook which is decidedly not apple, and on my Android tablet (nexus 7).

Our kids have fire tablets and I find them to be quirky for sure, far more than any iphone or ipad I’ve used. They work fine, but it’s not the same as a nicer android tablet or an ipad.

I’m trying to go full screen in YouTube easily instead of hitting the icon.

I tend to use both tablets at the same time. As mentioned in the original post, the Fire is better set up for video (wide aspect ratio with good  speaker placement) and the iPad better for web surfing and reading. I wouldn’t want to switch that around because I find it unpleasant to use 16:9 devices for reading when there are better options available. Even my main computer monitor isn’t 16:9. I found one with 1920x1200 resolution that just works better for me.

Hmmm...  I don’t find the icon hard, but does double tap work?  I guess I did not know you could pinch to go FS on the ipad...

The icon was easier, but now the Fire is in a case/stand and the icon can be tricky to hit when reducing as it’s buried way down in the corner . But when going to FS it’s too easy to miss it and select the next video accidentally.

Double tapping doesn’t really work because wherever you tap it has another function; play/pause, back 10 seconds or forward 10 seconds.

I tried the same thing in Hulu and it's the same issue as YT, but it's easier to deal with since the icons are bigger and better positioned.

Ah, now I understand.  My fire is nekkid.  Does the long press bring up a menu?

Long press doesn’t do anything in YT but it does bring up something in Hulu. YT is still a problem...

Well, the obvious answer is to stop supporting youtube

Or I can just get another iPad. That's what I did before I loaned out my Air to a  friend...

I am really resisting getting the new iPad for the pencil. I lov e stylus devices.
